Doctor Who 6.01-02 (The Impossible Astronaut/The Day of the Moon)
- Is Moffat ever going to get back in the habit of wrapping up plots? This episode didn't actually explain what happened in the first one at all. While I appreciate that it was probably introducing the metaplot for this season, The Eleventh Hour managed to be standalone and usher in the metaplot -- Astronaut/Moon is just a tall order of dramatic happenings to explain that likely isn't ever going to get filled.
- Speaking of which. Can we be done with characters seeming to die? Seriously, I am losing all my belief in characters' ability to die for real between Cold Blood, Pandorica Opens, Big Bang, and now Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon I am pretty sure EVERYONE HAS DIED AND COME BACK TO LIFE. EVERYONE. This is turning into Marvel Comics. The entire cast of Doctor Who is qualified to be our Lord and Savior now.
- The Silence are like funny versions of Weeping Angels -- i.e., derivative and a little too ridiculous to be scary. I really hope there's more to this season's metaplot than just that. The cracks in time were cool, at least, even if they never really got followed up on.
- No, seriously, this is like Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways levels of not making any fucking sense.
- Like, you remember when Rose was possessed with the god-spirit of the TARDIS and killed the Daleks?
- This actually makes less sense than that.
- I was stoked that Canton Everett Delaware turned out to be gay! With his super-gritty Frank Miller voice all grittily rasping his way through his lines. In America. I mean it, though, he was cool and I hope we see more of him, and it's nice to see a gay character whose gayness isn't introduced through hitting on straight characters.
- Richard Nixon was so pathetic, he was kind of adorable. Poor crazy Nixon.
- Ugh, please to be done with the As the TARDIS Turns soap opera plotline already, this love rectangle hasn't even gotten started and I'm already sick of it. I'm especially not looking forward to all the opportunities Moffat'll have to fuck over his female characters as a result.
- I wonder if Time Lord Baby will be used as a way to re-intro the Time War metaplot from previous seasons? I kind of hope so, as it stands there's no connecting thread between Nine and Ten's seasons and Eleven's, and, well, it's not like the Master would be the first fucking character in Eleven's run to come back from the dead.
- This could all use a close shave with Occam's Razor.
