Doctor Who 6.07 A Good Man Goes To War

So given that the last episode sucked, the episode before that sucked, the pilot sucked, and in fact the entire season, and the direction this season has been going, has sucked, I was not really expecting this episode not to suck so I didn't see it until [personal profile] relia badgered me into seeing it so she could complain about it to me. It lived up to expectations.

- This season is the most pathetically narmy season of anything I've seen in a while. It's full of NO THIS IS THE MOST DRAMATIC MOMENT and ISN'T MY CHARACTER BADASS?? and AREN'T YOU HEARTRENT DESPITE HOW MANY SUPPOSEDLY MOST-DRAMATIC EPISODES THERE HAVE ALREADY BEEN?? and other OC-plotline-written-by-a-14-year-old-boy stuff. This is the highest the Doctor's ever risen!! Taking a spaceship staffed by like 40 impossibly dimwitted people! And the farthest he's ever fallen! Losing one baby!
- Only complete blithering idiots work for the Headless Monks, apparently, and that's all I can basically say about that except that I'm pretty sure I could raise a more believable military force out of the cast and crew of Jersey Shore.
- Casually destroying the Cybermen. Y'know, because we do that all the time on Doctor Who. Just all the time. Yup.
- But wait, no one should remember that Rory was ever a Ro --
- But what happened to 'Time Lords are not humans at al --
- But how could Doctor come to mean 'great warrior' in an alien language, linguistics doesn't work that w --
- Never mind.
- Yeah, I'm giving up on anything making sense in this episode, so I will just comment: an evil woman and a black dude in charge of an evil human faction. Me: "How come everyone in the future is British?" [personal profile] relia: "But at least they managed to preserve exactly one black dude. To be evil."
- Thanks for more throwaway LGBT representation in the form of the gay married fat thin Anglican red blue rutabaga antidisestablishmentarianism Marines, Moffat -- the kind of thanks that actually means 'no thanks at all.' In the language of the forest aliens. They don't have a word for 'thanks.'
- However, Vastra and Jenny were the only good thing about this episode... well, aside from the katana, because as you know, Bob, Asian people only make swords for the later use of non-Asian action heroes in various media to show their appropriative coolness. Sucker Punch and Kill Bill told me so.
- Also the nurse. He was cute.
- I was already spoiled on the 'Melody Pond' thing, so aside from it being both stupid and contrived and tacked-on and creepy and Renesmee-esque -- ... no, no 'aside from.' That. Just that.
- When did Rory become so creepy and domineering and possessive about -- okay, that part's not new. STOP HUGGING ANOTHER MAN, YOU GODDAMN WHORE, I ONLY ALLOW UNDER TEN SECOND HUGS BETWEEN MY WIFE AND THREATENING MALES
- On the other hand, Melody Pond turning into jizz was pretty funny.
- But how come --
- noooooo my poor fridge logic

Me: "It's like -- on the one hand, I know I'm never going to look like Michael Fassbender. But my consolation is, I'm also never going to look like Arthur Darvill."
