I think this article sums it up rather nicely although I'm not sure I agree with its assertion that Moffat was well-suited to adapt the Holmes stories in the first place (given Moffat cannot string together a plot with any sense of internal continuity left to his own devices, much less make sense of ACD's). Sadly, I stumbled on it on Tumblr where someone was bitching about how it "didn't get it."
