RENFAIRE! Man, I wish I could be going, not really because of loving renfaires but because of wanting to hang out with nerds whose company I enjoy while wearing ridiculous clothes.
I had no idea this list existed till I read Glen Weldon's reaction post, which I think is interesting to read as a reaction. Letting the internet nominate and vote would explain why Ender's Game was so high and the newness bias, I suppose. And Rowling was excluded due to an apparent rule about "no YA authors," which seems to have led to some really bizarre omissions as well (Earthsea is YA? Really?).
Re: Kushiel, I think the second book is good times (fake Venice! HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG) and the third one gets a bit gross and also a bit hilariously overblown at the end. But I freely admit that I eat these books up like candy.
